Surgery Update

The girls both had their surgeries and they went well. The surgeon said that we will not know if the surgery was a true success for another couple of weeks. Next Tuesday when he examines them, we want to see that their retinopathy progression has stayed the same and then the next Tuesday we want to see that it has improved. Some babies have to have a second laser treatment. I pray that one is all we needed. When I left the hospital Cameron was still out but they were doing blood work to see if they could wean her ventilator settings. Reagan was beginning to wake up.

On a good note, last night I heard words I never expected to hear - "You know Reagan is going to be ready to come home soon - be sure that you are ready!" I was in complete shock. Reagan drank her whole bottle last night which was a full feeding. They are hoping to begin working on feeding with Cameron by the end of the week (depending on how she recovers from surgery).

Please continue to keep our girls in your prayers as they recover from their busy day today.

  1. Wow, Leslie, I cannot believe they said that Reagan will soon be ready to come home, for some reason, when I read your good news, it brings tears to my eyes, maybe that's a mom thing too! :) Gosh, I know those were beautiful words! I'll be praying for a very soon homecoming for Reagan and Cameron to follow very soon after, and I'm sure it will be if everything continues as it has. I am praying hard for their eyes! I pray that the surgery was successful and that God gives the doctors the wisdom to do whatever it takes to correct their eyes! And I pray that Cameron does well waking up after surgery! I am praying for all three of your babies, four if you include Seth! :) And certainly praying for you too Leslie! Take care! love you all!

  2. I second that "Wow"! I have a friend who has a friend--whose little girl who is now 7 years old came home a little over three pounds. What exciting news! Praying for all of you.

  5. I know you don't know me - but I have been following your blog. I am a cheerleading coach in Upward and know Seth from that connection. I also have twins (not momo twins, but we twin moms have a bond anyway) and they were born 2 months premature almost 7 years ago. So when I heard what you were going through my heart went out to you. We only had to spend 1 month in the NICU, but for any parent - going home from the hospital without your children is one of the toughest things you will ever have to do. I am so very excited for you that the girls are doing so wonderfully and that Reagan might come home soon! My girls also have an older sibling and I think he was the most excited when they came home from the hospital. He is 2 years (almost exactly) older than the girls. Having 3 so close in age can be totally hectic at times, but I love it. Please know that the DeVries family is praying for you all!
